Job Description
We are hiring an experienced Electrical Manager to lead all electrical supervision activities on a construction project, ensuring technical compliance, safety, quality, and timely delivery. The role will manage a team of electrical engineers/inspectors, interface with the client, contractor, designers, and authorities, and drive resolution of technical issues from pre-construction through testing, commissioning, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design Assurance
• Lead technical reviews of shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, ITPs, and as-builts for compliance with contract, IFC drawings, and applicable codes/standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NEC, BS, local codes).
• Provide authoritative responses to RFIs/technical queries and maintain a robust decision log.
• Verify electrical calculations (load, short-circuit, protection coordination, volt drop, earthing/grounding, lighting, cable sizing) and propose optimizations where appropriate.
Construction Supervision & Quality Control
• Plan, assign, and oversee daily inspections (WIR/MIR), surveillance, and hold/witness points; manage NCRs, CARs, and closeouts.
• Monitor installation of LV/MV/HV distribution, substations/switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, earthing and lightning protection, lighting, small power, and ELV systems (fire alarm, PA/VA, BMS, CCTV, access control, structured cabling).
• Ensure proper storage, handling, and installation per manufacturer requirements and project specifications.
• Validate temporary electrical works and energization plans for safe construction staging.
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
• Lead FAT/SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and integrated systems testing; approve procedures and verify test records.
• Coordinate protection settings, relay testing, SCADA/BMS integration, and utility interfaces up to energization.
• Oversee readiness for handover: snag/punch lists, O&M manuals, asset registers, training, spares, warranties, and final as-builts.
Interface, Stakeholder & Authority Coordination
• Coordinate with civil/MEP disciplines to resolve clashes and sequence works; drive BIM-based coordination when applicable.
• Liaise with client representatives, designers, utilities, and authorities to secure NOCs, permits, inspections, and energization approvals.
• Chair electrical progress/coordination meetings; issue clear action plans and minutes.
Schedule, Cost & Contract Administration
• Track electrical progress vs. baseline; review look-aheads and recovery plans; validate measurement and earned value for electrical scope.
• Support change management: evaluate contractor claims/variations for technical merit and impact; produce recommendations.
• Administer contract requirements (e.g., FIDIC or equivalent): deliverables, notices, approvals, and close-out.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc/BEng) from an accredited institution.
• 15+ years’ experience in electrical engineering with at least 5 years in construction supervision consultancy and 2–3 years in a lead/management role.
• Proven delivery on medium to large-scale building, infrastructure, or industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of relevant codes/standards (IEC/IEEE/NEC/BS) and local authority requirements.
• Demonstrated experience with testing, commissioning, and utility/authority energization processes.
• Excellent English communication (written and verbal); strong report writing and stakeholder management.
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional registration (e.g., CEng, PE) and/or PMP.
• Chartered membership or active affiliation with IEEE/IES/IEI (or equivalent).
• Prior experience with FIDIC-based contracts.
• Regional authority experience (e.g., utilities/municipal approvals) for the project location.
